Pallonji Group(SPG) through Shapoorji Pallonji Construction Ltd.(SPCL) has a rich experience of over 140 years in the field of construction. In the late 1990’s, with the advent of liberalization, Shapoorji Pallonji Group made forays into the Power sector through a Joint Venture with Covanta Energy of USA and Wartsila NSD of Finland and is operating a 105 MW Plant in Tamilnadu. The Group had the distinction of putting up the Power Plant in 14 months at a cost of Rs.4500 million with no cost over-run.
SPG has entered into a Joint Venture with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in setting up at Hyderabad the largest Biotech Park in India.The other group companies include another construction major- Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. with a turnover of around Rs.4000 million. The Group has recently acquired Forbes Gokak Group which has a turnover exceeding Rs.8000 million.
The intrinsic strength of the Group can be adjudged by it’s shareholding in Tata Sons, the holding company which controls the Tata group of companies. SP Group is the single largest private shareholder in Tata Sons Ltd. with a holding of 18.39%.
